Nia, recently promoted to general manager of a fashion retail outlet, quickly implemented strict rules and high expectations, aiming to improve the store’s performance. Her aggressive management style, including extended shifts, fewer breaks, and harsh penalties for mistakes, alienated her staff, though they respected her hard work and journey to the top.
However, Nia’s approach backfired as sales plummeted. After firing an exhausted employee, Maya, she also insulted Victor, a 68-year-old janitor. When Nia told him off for his tardiness, Victor calmly tried to reason with her, but she fired him too. Unbeknownst to Nia, Victor was a co-owner of the store.
The store owner, Mr. Gordon, learned about the firings and confronted Nia. He revealed Victor’s past—how he saved Mr. Gordon’s life as a child and was offered a stake in the business. Nia was told to apologize to Victor, who was set to take over the store. Panicked, Nia visited Victor, who explained the importance of treating employees well for business success.
The next day, Nia, now aware of her mistakes, announced that Victor would be leading the store. She adopted a more respectful approach, following the principles of treating employees as family. As a result, employee morale and sales improved, earning Nia a promotion to CEO years later. Victor remained a janitor, content with his role.
