Greg thought he and Natalie had figured out co-parenting—until a late-night call shattered that illusion.
After five years together, Greg and Natalie had quietly separated. Their son, Oliver, was the only thing keeping them connected. They agreed to avoid a bitter custody battle, and Greg cherished nightly video calls with Oliver. Everything seemed fine—until the phone rang.
Natalie, crying hysterically, told Greg, “Oliver’s gone.” Greg was frozen, devastated. She explained he’d been buried, but something didn’t feel right. After a frantic call back, Natalie revealed nothing—she just apologized.
Then, Greg got another call, this time from Mike, Natalie’s new husband. “Oliver’s alive,” Mike said. Natalie had lied to keep Greg away, fearing he’d take Oliver once she had another child. Greg was furious.
He rushed to Natalie’s house for answers. She admitted she was pregnant and panicked, but Greg was beyond angry. “You faked our son’s death?” he yelled.
Though hurt, Greg reassured Natalie he wasn’t taking Oliver away. But if it happened again, legal action would follow. They agreed on counseling to work through their issues. Greg decided he needed to be closer to Oliver and started searching for jobs near him. He promised himself he wouldn’t be so far away next time.
