Bride and Groom Made Us Serve and Clean at Their Wedding – But Karma Didn’t Let Them Slide

We went to our friends’ wedding expecting to celebrate, not work. But when we arrived, the bride, Sarah, handed us “to-do” lists—setting up tables, serving drinks, even cleaning bathrooms. Apparently, they had no staff, and instead of enjoying the wedding, we were pressed into unpaid service.

We tried to make the best of it, but the bride treated us like employees, barking orders while her family relaxed. Eventually, we realized we were basically doing the job of hired help—without the pay. So, we decided to stop being gracious.

After a quick chat, we all agreed our “help” would be our wedding gift. When the couple sat down to open presents, we told them we’d keep the thousand-dollar gifts we’d planned to give, as payment for our work. Sarah flipped out, and in the chaos, she tripped into the wedding cake.

We left, laughing all the way to the parking lot, our dignity—and money—intact. It wasn’t the wedding gift they expected, but it was one they’ll never forget.
