The Noah Garland Family: A 1940 Snapshot of Resilience and Support in Barbourville, Kentucky

The Noah Garland family is shown in this photograph, which was shot in Barbourville, Kentucky, in November 1940. The FSA provided some financial support to the Garland family. Marion Walcott, a government photographer, was sent to snap some images of the family and their house. A new cellar was constructed with some of the funds, and running water was installed, among other things. Images such as this were utilized in a public service capacity to motivate others to take advantage of the resources that are available.
