“Renters.” Texas farmers that travel around, renting a farm for a year or so before moving on, adopting a nomadic lifestyle and understanding that nothing is permanent. House neglected and lacking paint. Children five years old and younger assist with farm chores and pick cotton, but they receive little to no formal education. According to State University, this affects an estimated 300,000 youngsters in Texas alone. Refer to the Texas Hine report. Starting with this five-year-old girl who selects some, everyone works, including the ladies. Every day, the nine-year-old girl harvests one hundred and fifty pounds.
