Oscars: Keanu Reeves takes Whoopi Goldberg’s controversial role as master of ceremonies instead.

The 109th Annual Academy Awards revealed a significant change in its hosting lineup, opting not to have Whoopi Goldberg, who had been informed in March of the previous year that she would lead the 2023 show. Committee Chairman Joe Barron cited Goldberg’s perceived toxicity and controversy as reasons for the decision, stating, “It may seem like a tough call, but it really wasn’t. She essentially brought this upon herself.”

According to Whoopi’s social media expert, Skip Tetheludah, the issue stemmed from her challenge in appeasing both her fanbase and a politically opposed, cult-like group. Tetheludah explained, “Keeping them entertained with nonsense is easier, so we don’t question it much.”

Taking Whoopi’s place is Keanu Reeves, marking his first hosting appearance at the awards. Many feel it’s a long-overdue honor for Reeves, universally beloved by practically everyone. In a statement, Reeves expressed his desire to earn the respect of the Academy and requested permission to make jokes, with a preemptive apology, especially if they may be directed toward females.

Reeves also distributed a waiver form for hugs after presenting awards, emphasizing his commitment to ensuring everyone’s comfort with physical contact.

In contrast, Goldberg, a four-time host of the show, has never sought permission to hug anyone, highlighting the distinction between a world-class actor and a talk show host.

God bless America, and God bless Keanu Reeves.
