Chief Justice Gives KBJ Coloring Book to Avoid Distractions

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a desperate attempt to prevent more eyebrow-raising questions and random comments during Supreme Court oral arguments, Chief Justice John Roberts reportedly handed Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson a giant crayon coloring book to keep her busy.

Sources say Justice Jackson, known for her recent creative (and slightly off-topic) legal takes, received the surprise gift right before an important hearing.

“Look! I colored a unicorn!” Jackson reportedly squealed, waving her bright purple creation around the courtroom. Chief Justice Roberts allegedly replied, “Wonderful job, Ketanji! Now stay in your seat and keep coloring quietly while the grown-ups discuss boring legal stuff.”

According to witnesses, Jackson then proudly skipped around the room showing everyone her pages, which also included a rainbow, a smiling sun, and what she described as “a happy Constitution.”

A court insider revealed Roberts and other justices brainstormed ways to keep Jackson engaged without interrupting. “We thought about giving her Play-Doh, finger paints, or even a full set of giant foam blocks,” one source said. “But the coloring book won out because it also helps develop fine motor skills.”

By the end of the morning session, Jackson had filled 27 pages with doodles and was heard telling Justice Sotomayor she planned to draw a dragon fighting voter ID laws next.

At publishing time, the Supreme Court announced an early recess to give Justice Jackson her daily juice box and to load her iPad with episodes of Bluey for the afternoon hearings.
