Robert Aramayo, widely recognized for his roles in fantasy epics like The Rings of Power (as Elrond) and Game of Thrones (as young Ned Stark), is taking a powerful new direction in the upcoming biographical drama I Swear. Directed by Kirk Jones, returning to the big screen for the first time in nearly a decade, I Swear tells the incredible true story of John Davidson — a man who grew up with Tourette’s Syndrome during the harsh 1980s and later received an MBE for his efforts to raise awareness about the condition.
The newly released trailer (which includes strong language) offers an emotional glimpse into John’s life in Galashiels. We see a young John (played by Aramayo) facing isolation both at home and school while living with his supportive mother (Shirley Henderson) and father (Steven Cree). As he grows up, John encounters Dottie (Maxine Peake) and Tommy Trotter (Peter Mullan), two key figures who help him navigate the challenges of his neurological condition and find his place in the world.
Aramayo’s performance is already earning attention for its emotional depth. The actor reportedly stayed with the real John Davidson in Galashiels for several months to prepare for the role, making this his most transformative performance yet.
The film promises an emotional rollercoaster, with scenes that are both heartwarming and deeply moving. I Swear marks a significant departure from Jones’ previous work, such as My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, showcasing a more serious and inspiring story.
In addition to the trailer, a brand-new poster for the film has been released, teasing the film’s bold tone.
Fans can find out if I Swear will strike the right chord when it arrives in UK and Irish cinemas on 10 October. Until then, get ready to be inspired by John Davidson’s unforgettable journey.
