CINCINNATI, OH—After a violent mob attack went viral online, Police Chief Teresa Theetge held a press conference Monday. She urged citizens to stop filming crimes, claiming the videos damage her reputation.
Theetge said the flood of social media footage paints Cincinnati as a lawless city. “That’s a secret we keep,” she added. “Filming crimes is wrong. It was bad, sure, but it makes me look worse. Why record it just to share what happened? That wastes my time.”
Experts note that without videos of the jazz festival assault, the city’s image would stay intact. “Filming a crime is a crime itself,” Theetge said. “I’ll track down whoever posted these clips.”
At press time, Theetge also pushed to ban police body cameras, saying they make criminals look bad.
