While caring for my mom during her battle with cancer, I witnessed the strain on our family. My brother and aunts only showed up when they needed money or favors, while I supported mom through it all. When she passed away, I expected to inherit something, but at the will reading, I was shocked to learn that her $5 million estate was split between my brother and aunts, leaving me with nothing.
In tears, I questioned if I had done enough for her. But then, the lawyer handed me an envelope with a letter from mom, telling me she loved me more than anyone. It contained a key and an address to a house that she had left me. This beautiful, fully-paid home, with photos of us and even my favorite flowers, was her true gift.
The letter revealed that mom knew how my relatives were using her for money, and she wanted me to have a home to build a future. The money was meant to teach them a lesson. As I stood in my new kitchen, sipping coffee from the machine I always wanted, I realized that mom’s true gift was her love, not her money.
Hey, Mom, you always knew best.
