Historical Observation
After buying the Buffalo Iron Company in Hickman County, Tennessee, in 1897, the Bon Air Coal, Land and Lumber Company renamed itself the Bon Air Coal and Iron Company. The White County Coal Company received additional investors in 1917 as a result of the increasing demand for coal brought about by World War I. At a receiver’s sale in Nashville in July, William J. Cummins purchased the Bon Air Coal and Iron Company along with more than 50,000 acres of land. The Bon Air Coal and Iron Corporation became the new name for the corporation.
