An item from the 4 H. Club. Gradie Walton, a 17-year-old, excels in mathematics but is severely lacking in most other subject areas. Physically, he is severely impaired; he lost one eye in an accident, and the other is feeble. He planted 135 bushels of grain on an acre this year; his father planted approximately half that much and bemoaned the inferior quality of the boy’s land. The boy put a lot of effort into the plot, growing it, adding soil from the woods, and fertilizing it. This was the secret. For two years, he was awarded the First Prize.
