West Virginia and Ohio, 1896–1912

Picture of three lads and two young African American men dressed in formal attire, with a log home in the distance. The negative bears the label “Armstrong.” Albert J. Ewing, a traveling photographer, captured this image sometime between 1896 and 1912. It was probably photographed in central West Virginia or southeast Ohio, like the majority of Ewing’s photographs.
