WASHINGTON — In a bold 6-3 decision this week, the Supreme Court officially ruled that everyone these days is, in fact, a critic.
Chief Justice John Roberts, writing the majority opinion, stated that “it appears everyone has strong opinions on how this court should operate and isn’t afraid to share them — even when absolutely no one asks.”
Roberts referenced several past cases showing that people love to critique but rarely tolerate criticism themselves. “After thorough analysis, we must uphold the 1993 Rehnquist Court ruling confirming that some people are simply impossible to please,” he explained. “My fellow justices and I concluded that if people think this job is so easy, they should grab a robe and try it themselves. A little appreciation now and then wouldn’t hurt — that’s all we’re asking.”
In a strongly worded dissent joined by two other justices, Justice Sonia Sotomayor countered that sometimes the public’s criticisms are actually valid and worth considering.
