MADISON, WI — Nathan Enfield, a local pastor at Christ Methodist Church, resigned in disgrace after delivering a sermon without using a single Greek word, shocking his congregation.
Parishioners were left stunned and disappointed by what they called a serious breach of tradition in their church. Many comforted each other as the news spread throughout the community.
In a public apology, Pastor Enfield wrote, “I deeply regret failing to include and explain a Greek term in my sermon. This was never my intention. I have let my congregation down, and I recognize that this church deserves better leadership. Therefore, I am stepping down effective immediately.”
Witnesses described the moment the pastor concluded his sermon without uttering or defining any Greek words as a moment of disbelief. Local parishioner Kelly White said, “It was shocking. Every sermon needs at least one Greek word like ‘oikos.’ It’s part of our tradition. We’re relieved he took responsibility and resigned.”
At press time, Enfield was enrolled in remedial seminary courses, hoping to regain the skills necessary for future ministry.
